What You Don't know About Your Windshield Could Kill You!
Please read on and watch the three videos below, It could be a matter of life or death, so take the time and make an educated decision based on safety, not just price!
Auto Glass
The windshield is the only thing protecting you from outside elements such as wind and small debris, in a moving automobile. While technology has advanced the durability of Windshields today, auto glass in daily use can, and will need repair or complete replacement to ensure your safety.

Auto glass installation is done with a special adhesive that creates a molecular bond between the vehicle and the glass or windshield. Since the installation needs to be airtight, the process must begin with a clean surface using special care not to get any dirt or other particles inside the windshield seam. Failure to keep the windshield repair clean and free of dirt can lead to rust and corrosion. The proper clips must also be used to ensure sealing and keeping it airtight and waterproof.

Also important is cleaning your windshield. Keeping your windshield clean will not only keep your driving visibility safe but also allow you to constantly check for small cracks that can be repaired right away.

To find out more about federal requirements, we encourage you to browse the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards page linked below. The FMVSS, set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Criteria, manufactures must meet in order to conform to regulations. The Complete current regulations may be found here!

Auto glass is a safety feature.
Many people only look for the lowest price when they shop for auto glass. But there are varying qualities of glass, and levels of installation quality. An improperly installed windshield is virtually useless at protecting you during an accident. Thats why it is very important to select a reputable installer. Kalamazoo Glass     & Windshields  P.A.G. Certified installers  follow a strict exclusive 21 step installation process to insure the best possible and safest install.
Your auto glass provides 40% to 70% of the strength of your vehicle
In a rollover, the windshield helps the cabin maintain its ridgidity, protecting the passengers--which is especially important in minivans with oversized windshields or in convertibles. In a front impact, the windshield assists airbag deployment and keeps passengers from being thrown out of the vehicle. The windshield also helps protect you from flying road deris and keeps hazardous water and gases out of the vehicle.

Windshield installation quality is affected by 6 factors.

1. Glass Quality
Windshield glass is laminated—a piece of vinyl (PVB) sandwiched between two pieces of specially strengthened glass. A good windshield matches your old windshield exactly in tint, size, and extra features such as a rain sensor. Cheap installations often use thinner, badly-fitting glass, which is manufactured to a different size and thickness to avoid infringing on the copyright of the companies that make the original glass. Here at Kalamazoo Glass     we only use OEM Glass, Moldings & Urethanes

2. Molding
Look at your windshield and you'll notice that there's a rubber molding that wraps around all or part of it. Most of the time, the molding is replaced with a windshield replacement. The molding is not the seal and it's only Purpose is for appearance.

3. Urethane
Urethane is used to bond the windshield to your vehicle. After an installation, the urethane must have enough time to cure and create a strong bond before you can drive your car. A weakly attached windshield may pop out or buckle in an accident. Kalamazoo Glass     only uses Essex Betaseal One urethane which cures to crash test rating in 1 hour of installation, some glass shops use a much cheaper urethane which can take up to 36 hours to cure to a crash test rating

4. Temperature and Humidity
Temperature and humidity at the time of installation determine how quickly the urethane cures. Your installer should always give you a safe drive-away time.
Since we use Essex Betaseal One (a chemical cure) it does not use temp or humidty to cure, always giving you a safe drive time in 1 hour. In the winter, if a shop uses a cheaper urethane you could have to wait up to 36 hours to drive your car safely.

5. Existing Windshield Frame
If the windshield frame on your vehicle is bent or rusty, your new windshield may not be able to bond with it properly. A high-quality auto glass installation on a damaged frame can still be unsafe. If you have structural damage to your pinchweld, we will discuss this with you before proceding, to give you the better option of having it professionaly repaired at a body shop of your choice.

If you have just a small amount of rust we can usually grind it out and use a bare metal etching primer to correct the area for a small addl. fee, however having existing rust will void your warrantee unless you have it professionaly removed by a 3rd. party.

6. Installer Ability
All the high-quality materials in the world won't make up for an auto glass installer who doesn't have experience and training. It's worth paying a little more to get a good installer. A windshield price that seems too cheap probably is—and could even be subcontracted to someone else who has little or no training. Be very carefull of this on the internet because most of the shops that show up on web searches are not shops at all, but order takers. They charge you a price for the job and then get a local shop to do the work for less than you paid, and pocket the difference. The major problem is you have no idea who you are hiring and they are doing the work for less than is average, so it stands to reason you will get a less than average job. Some of these shop will show pu as 89 Glass,,, Glass one, Windshield Smith, Express auto glass, and many more. Bottom line, If they are not in your local phone book or have a local address, you do not want to hire them!

As a father, when it comes to my wife and children their safety is always my #1 priority.
When it comes to your family, I'm sure you have the same priorities. Did you know that up-to 70% of your vehicles roll over strength is provided by a properly installed windshield? My guarantee to you is that you will receive the safest glass installation possible. We don't simply just install your windshield we do it correctly and safely with our exclusive 21 step installation process. We use original quality glass, always install new Precision moldings and use OEM urethanes and primers. I believe that Quality Trumps Quantity and that is why we limit the number of windshields we install in a day to give adequate time to do the job right and allow for any surprises that pop up, like rust due to a prior poor quality install from a less safety conscientious glass shop. This integrity is why I can confidently offer a LIFETIME NO LEAK WARANTEE. We don't claim to always be the cheapest, but we do claim to be the best Value and choice for your family’s vehicles!”
